August 2002

Michael will be DJing once again at WFMU Saturday August 31st from 7pm - 9pm. Try it you'll like it!

Michael and the superstar band (John Lee, Jon Graboff & Steve Goulding) will be playing a live concert at The Baggot Inn in beautiful Greenwich Village on Friday August 23rd. Please join us!

HEY FOLKS IN EUROPE: Shoeshine Records will be releasing the "I Blame You" album this fall, so calm down!

Michael's song "That's Where The Plaque Is" appears on the brand new compilation album "Greasy Kid Stuff: Songs from Inside the Radio". To celebrate the release of this fine album, there's going to an 'event' at the NYC store Pumpkin Maternity on July 28. Michael and The Hoppin' Haole Brothers will play live and Greasy Kid Stuff hosts Hova & Belinda will DJ live!

Michael and the band (with special guest Dave Amels on organ!) will be at Maxwells on August 3rd playing a few Stiff Records songs as part of an all star bill at the release party for the new compilation The Stiff Generation.

Michael will be DJing at the mighty WFMU on Saturday July 13th & 20th from 3am - 6am (aka really early Sunday morning). The Stiff Generation, will released July 30, 2002 by Groove Disques. Included on this fine tribute to the Stiff record label are two short pieces of Michael's version of the Madness song "One Step Beyond". More info on the discography page.

Michael occasionally does fill-in shows at the world's finest radio station WFMU. We just found out that one whole program from September 2000 is archived on their web site. CLICK HERE to hear it!

Michael is a co-founder of a brand new record company called Confidential Recordings!

THERE'S BEEN A CHANGE: Michael & his Band are not playing at The International Pop Overthrow music festival (coming to New York the first week in December). Lots of other great bands are playing, so see you in the audience!

Michael & band will be playing with the always wonderful Amy Rigby on November 2nd at The Mt. Airy Music Club's series held at the Collabergh Lodge, an old Mason's Lodge in Croton-on-Hudon, about 30 miles up the river from nyc. We hear the sound, lights & food are good at this intimate venue. Because MSN has closed the free "listbot" service, all the folks who signed up for the Michael Shelley mailing list have been gyped! So, we've set up a new "Michael Shelley Community". If you want to be on the new improved mailing list, you need to sign up to be a member of this new thing, and make sure to check the "send me all the emails" option. We've posted a ton of new photos there, as a motivator.

It looks like Michael will be doing a small tour of Japan in September, as the opening act for Marshall Crenshaw! We'll post more details as we get 'em!

Michael's been doing some recording for a Teenage Fanclub tribute album at Dennis Diken's Nun-bett R Studios, with Don Flemming producing!

Check out this list of "100 artists that defined our musical landscape during the 1990's". Michael is #74! There is also a nice review, on a page titled "The Best Of 2001" of I Blame You, on the same site.

April, 2001

Michael and Laura Cantrell will be appearing together at the extremely intimate The Den at Two Boots on Thursday May 10th. This special acoustic show is sure to feature a few songs from Laura's great album "Not The Tremblin' Kind", a few of Michael's songs, and a few surprises.

Looks like the Michael Shelley band will be opening for the always amazing NRBQ at Maxwell's in Hoboken N.J. on Friday April 20. Two shows of fun, get your tickets in advance!

Here's yet another nice (5 stars) review of the U.K. release of the Too Many Movies album on the Drowned In Sound web zine.

Here's a page that we can only guess about (it is in Japanese) but there're links to Michael's songs, and mentions of our pals The Queers, and a giant headline about The Muffs, and some photos from the Josie & The Pussycats movie, BUT maybe the best thing is at the bottom, there's an animation of some guy whos head pops off and blood gushes out and the words "die, human scum, racist pig, die!"

The reviews of the new U.K. release of Too Many Movies are rolling in, here's a four star example from The Guardian ! and here's one from the February 4th edition of The Sunday Times and one from Revolutions.

The album was released on Shoeshine on February 20. Fans in the U.K. should keep their eyes peeled for reviews in Time Out, The Guardian, Q, Uncut & Mojo!

Folks in the U.K. can buy the album from the Shoeshine site or from the Audio Street site. FYI: The U.K. version of the album features a totally different version of "Summer I Pissed You Away" then the U.S. release!

SHOESHINE RECORDS has just released a seven inch single of "Baby's In A Bad Mood" backed with an alternate version of "Don't".

There's a band called The Makers, and their singer's name is Michael Shelley too. We sent him a "Michael Shelley" t-shirt and he never responded... anyway of this guy in action!

November 2000

The really big news it that it looks like BAR/NONE will releasing Michael's new album in March in the U.S.A. ! Stay tuned for more details.

Michael will be in the U.K. doing some gigs and promotion for the upcoming release of "Too Many Movies" on SHOESHINE. An exciting bill In Glasgow on November 7th opening for Jonathan Richman at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, and in London at The Borderline on the 8th. These are not 100% confirmed, so make a few calls before you buy your plane ticket!

October 2000

Starting October 25 (with Michael's new album) the Nippon Crown label will be releasing all three of Michael's albums in Japan. They created these cute stickers for the cd cases.

August 2000

A nine song EP of new and hard to find material has just been made available exclusively through MP3.COM. The EP features two brand new out-takes from the sessions for Michael's forthcoming album ("Little Monkey" and "No Smoking", both instrumentals) , four previously unreleased alternate versions of classics ("Baby's In A Bad Mood", "Don't", "Too Many Movies" & "Summer I Pissed You Away"), a slow version of "Girl With The Light In Her Eyes" previously available only on a cd that came with the Japanese magazine Beikoku Ongaku, and two songs previously found only on compilation cds. All songs are available for preview so click here to check it out.
